“A Childhood Brow Mishap”

“When I was younger I used to watch my dad shave. One day, I saw him shaving and I took the shavers and shaved my eyebrows completely off! All the way. Some grew back – but not all of them. There are permanent gaps. Every morning when I wake up I have to fill them in, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right.”

“For this eyebrow makeover, we’re going to use a Diorshow Brow Styler. It’s actually a pencil and powder all in one. There’s no wax so it doesn’t feel like your brows are going to be cakey. I start by making a straight line from the bottom inside of your brow to the arch. Then, I outline the tail of the brow and start to fill it in, almost scribbling. This is where we can create fake hairs for any that are missing so it all looks very natural at the end.

“Once I’m pretty happy with how the brow looks, I go back with this NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to carve out the brow. You want to use something that’s just a shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Using a small brush, I’m just outlining around the outside of her brows and then blending it out to give the brows more definition. “Finally, we’re going to brush on a clear brow gel from Anastasia Beverly Hills just to really hold this for all-day wear. This look is natural enough to wear to the gym and impress your gym crush or just to own your workday.” [before_after id=2]

“The Year of Brows”

“I told myself that 2019 was going to be the year of handstands and brows! Handstands? I don’t know, we’ll see if that happens… But brows – I think we can tackle that today. My biggest thing is I have really light hair. I never know how much color to put in my brow. I like a little bit of a statement and definition, but I don’t know how much is too much.”

“Blondes sometimes have invisi-brows. You never want to have invisi-brows. You always want to have color. When you use a pencil you can achieve that. It’s just all about how much pressure you use.

“Then, in terms of knowing how much is enough, I like having two mirrors. That way you have a close-up mirror and a mirror that’s further away so you’re never startling people with brows that were overdone from a detailed viewpoint. “I’m going to start with the Diorshow Brow Styler again here. Again, you always want to start by just brushing the hairs up so you can see the shape more clearly. Then I start to outline the shape and fill. With this pencil, the harder you press, the darker it gets. So we’re just going to start light. I like it wispier in the front, and then a little more concentrated towards the back. “Now, this alone is great for going to Trader Joe’s or going on a coffee date. But if you’re going to the club tonight and want to give yourself a little more, that’s when I would carve out the brows with Dior’s Airflash. This spray-on foundation is great for carving out brows as a lighter alternative to concealer. You just shake it up real good, spray it on a concealer brush and then buff it into the skin. And voila! Gorgeous brows.” [before_after id=3]

“Brow Hubris”

“I honestly have a little bit of brow hubris. I thought my brows were really great. Then, in planning this shoot, a co-worker pointed out some areas that could be improved. So now I wonder if there is room to improve even having a fairly good base to begin with.

“Mmkay, well I’m just gonna tell you right now that you have perfect brows. Seriously! But what I would like to do on you is this. When you see editorial work, they don’t do the really dramatic Instagram brow. Same thing here. When I look at brows like yours, I don’t want to ruin them by putting too much product in. I’m just going to even them out and enhance what’s there.

“To start, I’m going to use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer which is great because It has three points. You can use it flat and do strokes. Or, you can use the pinpoint to create little hairs. And then the other side is our favorite, the spoolie.

“I hate when people say that thing, ‘brows should be sisters, not twins!’ Unless they are super distant neighbors, you’re good. We just want to try and even them out. I’m also giving you a little extra arch. With the flat side of this pencil, I’m literally just dragging it through the brows. So instead of drawing individual brow hairs, I’m just shading things in.

“Last, we’ll finish with the Anastasia Brow Gel. We call Anastasia “the Queen of Brows” because she started the whole brow movement. She’s definitely the most popular brow product line at Nordstrom. And there you go! It just looks more polished.”
