They\u2019re More Balanced<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>On their own, a handful of granola, a plain bowl of yogurt or oatmeal, or even a hard-boiled egg or two lacks the nutrients (and nutrient diversity) your body needs to feel and function its best. Conversely, filling your plate with hearty fare and balanced macros will set your body up for success for a full day ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cA balanced morning meal can keep blood sugar and stress hormones in check, which allows the body to lose weight,\u201d Brown explains.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-they-prioritize-whole-foods\">2. They Prioritize Whole Foods<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Whole and minimally processed foods are ideal to keep your weight and greater health in check.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>In fact, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41591-025-03842-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent study<\/a> found that people on a minimally processed diet lost twice as much weight and had fewer cravings as those on a diet high in ultraprocessed foods\u2014even though both diets were nutritionally balanced. <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7432073\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Another study<\/a> in participants with overweight or obesity showed that calorie intake following an eggs-and-toast breakfast was less than that following a breakfast of cereal, while also reducing hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhole-food breakfasts tend to be higher in protein, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/benefits-of-soluble-fiber-vs-insoluble-fiber\/\">fiber<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/healthy-fats-list\/\">healthy fats<\/a>,\u201d Brown adds, \u201cwhich keep you satisfied longer, reduce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/anti-inflammatory-lifestyle\/\">inflammation<\/a>, and help maintain muscle mass.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Moreover, many processed breakfast foods are carb-rich and\/or high in sugar, causing glucose spikes and crashes that spell bad news for your weight, energy, and overall metabolic health.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-they-signal-fullness\">3. They Signal Fullness<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re used to drinking a smoothie or protein shake for breakfast, your body might not \u201cclock\u201d it as efficiently as heartier breakfast fare. \u201cWhile these drinks might be convenient, it\u2019s easy to drink beyond fullness cues since they lack the need for chewing: an often overlooked part of feeling full,\u201d Brown
