Use Heat Sparingly<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a good chance that heated tools are in your styling lineup\u2014but they\u2019re not exactly doing you any favors to promote hair health and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/heat-damaged-hair\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\">prevent damage<\/a>. As such, Cavalcante advises heeding the following tips for applying heat to your hair:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always use a heat protectant spray<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat the tools to 365 degrees Fahrenheit or lower to avoid burning your hair<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limit use to once or twice weekly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you find yourself constantly fighting your hair\u2019s volume or texture with a flat iron, consider a smoothing treatment like keratin instead of frying your strands every day,\u201d he shares. \u201cIt\u2019s a much healthier option in the long run.\u201d Air drying whenever you can and using cooler settings on your blow dryer will also help.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-lean-into-sun-safe-hair-habits\" data-short-title=\"Sun-Safe Hair Habits\">4. Lean into Sun-Safe Hair Habits<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Harsh UV rays aren\u2019t only damaging to your skin. Cavalcante says they also wreak havoc by drying out your hair, fading color, and potentially burning your scalp. That said, he advises using hair products with UV filters if you\u2019re spending time outdoors. He also gives the green light to hats for a physical barrier of protection.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-let-your-hair-loose\" data-short-title=\"Loose Hair\">5. Let Your Hair Loose<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Tie your hair back daily? Doing so might be convenient and low-fuss, but it also stresses your strands. \u201cSuper tight ponytails or sleek buns every day can lead to hairline breakage or even traction alopecia,\u201d Cavalcante warns.
