However, per a <a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/smr\/article\/11\/4\/342\/7222595\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2023 article<\/a> in <em>Sexual Medicine Reviews<\/em>, iron deficiency can heighten the risk of (or worsen) sexual dysfunction across all age groups.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>The fix:<\/strong> It\u2019s typically easy and inexpensive to test for iron deficiency, so it could be worth consulting your doctor if you experience <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hematology.org\/education\/patients\/anemia\/iron-deficiency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">telltale signs<\/a>\u2014including but not limited to fatigue, shortness of breath, sallow skin, and low libido. Aside from heeding your doctor\u2019s advice, you can aim to include more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/high-iron-foods\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\">high-iron foods<\/a> in your diet, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Oysters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>White beans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spinach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lentils<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red meat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tofu<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>Supplementing with iron is also a simple yet effective intervention to boost your levels. A <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/29973697\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2018 study<\/a> found that male participants deficient in vitamin D had lower scores for erectile dysfunction, sexual desire, and orgasmic function compared to healthy men.
