But with this information sharing comes risks\u2014especially when vaginal health advice is involved.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>In fact, turning to TikTok for those vaginal health hacks could do more harm than good. \u201cWhen looking to TikTok for vaginal health care, tips, and advice, there can be an increased risk of delayed diagnosis or infections,\u201d explains<a href=\"https:\/\/vspotmedispa.com\/vspot-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Monica Grover, MD<\/a>, chief medical officer at<a href=\"https:\/\/vspotmedispa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> VSPOT<\/a> and double-board certified OB-GYN. We spoke to Dr. Grover to get her thoughts on all of the most popular health hacks trending on TikTok. Slippery Elm Bark Increases Vaginal Lubrication<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/healthy-social-media-habits\/\">Social media<\/a> users everywhere are using slippery elm (Ulmus fulva) for vaginal dryness, claiming it helps with lubrication. \u201cSlippery elm bark is thought to increase mucilage tissues in our bodies, including vaginal tissue,\u201d Dr. Grover says. \u201cHowever, this is known as a supplement in alternative medicine, and there has been no sound data on this as a remedy nor been found to be of a beneficial supplement by the FDA.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re interested in trying this health hack, consult your doctor before to make sure your supplements come from good sources. Additionally, proceed with caution if you take medications. Slippery elm can coat your stomach and interfere with nutrient absorption, which is why it\u2019s important to speak to your doctor about taking this supplement. To be safe, take any slippery elm bark supplements two hours before or after your other medications, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountsinai.org\/health-library\/herb\/slippery-elm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mount Sinai<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-insert-boric-acid-suppositories-to-help-restore-an-acidic-ph-level\"><strong>4. They are not\u2014boric acid will not improve vaginal taste or smell (unless you\u2019re using it under a doctor\u2019s order to treat an infection).<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-douche-your-vagina-to-cleanse-it-thoroughly\"><strong>5. Douche Your Vagina to Cleanse It Thoroughly<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Maybe you\u2019ve heard that douching isn\u2019t great, but you\u2019re still wondering if you should try it. Let Dr. Grover put your curiosity to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/types-of-rest\/\">rest<\/a>: Douching will only backfire and worsen vaginal health. That\u2019s where your doctor can help\u2014they offer non-invasive solutions for issues such as painful sex.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-7-insert-garlic-into-your-vagina-as-a-natural-antifungal\"><strong>7. Insert Garlic Into Your Vagina As a Natural Antifungal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Step away from the garlic. This viral vaginal health hack is a complete myth, Dr. Grover says. \u201cGarlic contains allicin (an anti-fungal), but inserting a clove of garlic in the vaginal canal may do more harm than good,\u201d she explains. \u201cThere are other bacteria and biofilms on the clove itself that are now being introduced into the vaginal canal, which can cause potential infections that may be very difficult to treat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-8-insert-a-peeled-cucumber-into-your-vagina-to-clean-it\"><strong>8. Insert a Peeled Cucumber Into Your Vagina to Clean It<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the deal: Inserting any kind of food into your vagina isn\u2019t a great idea. In fact, sticking foods into the cavity could result in even more issues down the road. \u201cUsing a cucumber to clean the vagina is potentially very harmful, could cause an infection, and should be avoided,\u201d Dr. Grover says. \u201cYour vagina is self-cleaning, and a cucumber could interfere with your pH balance and good bacteria.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-9-steam-your-vagina-for-a-deep-clean\"><strong>9.
