That\u2019s why we chatted with a few fitness experts to find out once and for all if there really is an optimal time to day to get in your workout.\r\n<h2>When is the best time to exercise?<\/h2>\r\nGood news: There\u2019s no one-size-fits-all approach to working out\u2014and that goes just as much for timing as it does the exercise type.\r\n\r\n\u201cEveryone operates differently,\u201d begins STEEZY Studio dance workout instructor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/luismcervantes\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Cervantes<\/a>. \u201cFor some people, working out first thing in the morning might be the best way to kickstart their energy, mental state, and overall day. For others, working out in the evening might be the best way to release any tension or frustration from their day, and might even help them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/mighty-night\/\">sleep<\/a> better at night.\u201d\r\n\r\nThe point is, there\u2019s no right or wrong answer when it comes to the best time to exercise. \u201cThe important thing is to get up and get moving at some point in the day,\u201d Luis continues.\r\n\r\nAfter all, as he points out, movement is essential for both physical and mental well-being.\r\n\r\nPlus, \u201cStudies show that there are various physiological advantages for working out both in the morning and at night,&#8221; adds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/digiorgiok\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Katelyn DiGiorgio<\/a>, Pure Barre&#8217;s VP of Training and Technique. &#8220;So above all, the most effective time to work out is the when you can practically fit it in your schedule consistently.\u201d\r\n\r\n<img data-dominant-color=\"8e857d\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #8e857d;\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24967 aligncenter not-transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/best-time-to-exercise-The-Wellnest-by-HUM-Nutrition.jpg\" alt=\"Woman opening her gym bag after working out in the afternoon\" width=\"770\" height=\"514\" \/>\r\n<h2>How to Find the Best Exercise Routine for You<\/h2>\r\nNow, since the best time to exercise is subjective, the smartest approach is to figure out the routine that&#8217;s most effective for y-o-u.\r\n\r\nMindbody yoga instructor and holistic wellness specialist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodyonline.com\/explore\/fitness\/instructors\/dani-schenone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dani Schenone, RYT<\/a>, recommends asking yourself the following questions:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Does effective mean getting the movement in, regardless of when or how?<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Does it mean doing a workout that brings you the energy you need to go about your day?<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Is your objective to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/how-does-exercise-reduce-stress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lower stress levels<\/a>, sleep better, or something else entirely?<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nWhatever the case may be, knowing what works best for you will help you get the most out of your workouts. With that in mind, Dani suggests following the steps below to uncover your most ideal exercise routine\u2014timing and all.\r\n<h3>1. Identify your goal<\/h3>\r\nBefore trying to plan any workouts, first identify what your goal is.\r\n\r\nThat way, you can gauge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/how-often-should-you-exercise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how often you\u2019ll need to workout<\/a>, which can also help you determine the best time to do so.\r\n<h3>2. Choose the type of workout<\/h3>\r\nOnce you have your goal in mind\u2014whether it\u2019s to get stronger, sleep better, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/benefits-of-hiking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stress less<\/a>, or manage your weight\u2014it\u2019s time to pick a workout.\r\n\r\n\u201cAre you cycling? Practicing yoga? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/health-benefits-of-strength-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lifting<\/a>?\u201d Dani asks. \u201cThese are very different types of movement, and you may find you like one type of movement in the morning and another type in the afternoon.\u201d\r\n\r\nWhen sampling workouts, she recommends focusing on one type at a time.\r\n<h3>3. Experiment with different times<\/h3>\r\nLet&#8217;s say you want to get into cycling, but you\u2019re not sure if it\u2019s for you. Dani suggests exercising at different times throughout the day to really give it a chance.\r\n\r\n\u201cJot down your feelings pre- and post-movement,\u201d she says. \u201cWhat was the experience like? Did you feel closer to your goal? How [are] <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/what-are-the-best-vitamins-for-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">your energy levels<\/a>? Stress levels? What is your body telling you before, during and after the workout? Write it all down.\u201d\r\n\r\nAfter a week of testing a workout, decide if it\u2019s right for you or if it\u2019s time to try something new.\r\n<h3>4. Create a routine<\/h3>\r\nOnce you\u2019ve reviewed your notes and found your ideal workout and optimal time of day, it\u2019s time to create a routine that accommodates your time preference.\r\n\r\nDani encourages everyone to commit to their chosen workout regimens. \u201cCommit to coming back to that routine [even if] you fall off for a day or three\u2014because you\u2019re human, and that&#8217;s inevitable,\u201d she shares.\r\n\r\nThen, once you\u2019ve gotten into your routine and given it a few weeks to really reap its benefits, it&#8217;s time to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/best-self-care-planners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">check in with yourself<\/a>. \u201cDoes this routine serve you?\u201d she asks. \u201cYes? Great! No? As Dani points out, we should all congratulate ourselves on moving our bodies.\r\n\r\n\u201cIt\u2019s hard enough to carve time into our lives to exercise,\u201d she says. \u201cBeing so prescriptive and rigid could potentially keep you from doing the very thing you want to do, which is move!\u201d\r\n\r\nUltimately, the key takeaway is that the best time to exercise is whenever it works for you.
