It improves oral hydration + prevents dental hygiene issues<\/h3>\r\nDid you know that\u00a0 your saliva production slows down when you sleep? For this reason, NYC-based dentist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctorjablow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jennifer Jablow, DDS<\/a>, explains that if you sleep with your mouth open, it can become incredibly dry.\r\n\r\nNot only is that uncomfortable but, according to Dr. Jablow, it can lead to an acidic oral environment. This can lead to cavities, as well as an increased risk for gum problems. Yikes!\r\n<h3>2. It helps prevent bad breath<\/h3>\r\nWhen you sleep with your mouth open, you\u2019re welcoming mouth breathing into your routine. And there\u2019s a reason why the kids in <em>Stranger Things<\/em> use the term &#8220;mouth breather&#8221; as an insult.\r\n\r\nAccording to dentist and Spotlight Oral Care co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/spotlightoralcare.com\/pages\/our-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Vanessa Creaven<\/a>, mouth breathing leads to bad breath. Since leaving it open can lead to permanent skeletal irregularities, Dr. Creaven says it\u2019s especially important to sleep with your mouth closed.\r\n\r\n\u201cThis is primarily linked to the growth that is seen in the upper jaw versus that of the lower jaw,\u201d she explains. Dr. Creaven continues to say that it may eventually contribute a more visible gum line when you smile.\r\n<h3>4. It prevents snoring<\/h3>\r\nLess permanent but still notable, sleeping with your mouth closed puts an end to loud sleeping. However, when you breathe through your nose, NYC-based dentist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lowenberglituchykantor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brian Kantor, DDS<\/a>, says the air is filtered.\r\n\r\n\u201cWhen air passes through the mouth, the means by which your body absorbs oxygen is less efficient, which can lead to poor sleep quality and lower energy levels throughout the day,\u201d he explains.\r\n<h3>6. It Can Help Prevent bloating<\/h3>\r\nLastly, breathing with your mouth open could actually be to blame for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/how-digestion-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">feeling bloated<\/a>. \u201cBreathing through your mouth at night allows pockets of air to irregularly pass into the stomach, causing abdominal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/best-foods-for-bloating\/\">bloating<\/a>, intestinal pain, and excessive burping and belching,\u201d Dr. Kantor explains.\r\n\r\nSo, if the goal is to
