She&#8217;s &#8220;larger than life, extra, and unapologetically herself,&#8221; qualities that have culminated into yet another moniker and career trajectory: Queen of Confidence.\r\n\r\nIn her R29 YouTube series, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=okPW7VMghVk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ask Serena<\/a>,&#8221; SFK uses her unabashed humor and positivity to empower young women to be confident and courageous. To celebrate the series launch, we asked her about all things confidence, workouts, and wellness.\r\n<h2>how did you become the \u201cQueen of Confidence\u201d?<\/h2>\r\nIt took me a while to figure out who SFK truly was. She didn\u2019t fall into a certain niche, and my Instagram felt like a portfolio of thirst traps. Since people told me my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/healthy-social-media-habits\/\">social media<\/a> didn&#8217;t accurately represent who I was, I tried painting a better picture of what I wished to embody. From there, I realized I wanted SFK to be the epitome of confidence.\r\n\r\nGaining confidence takes time, and you have to work at it as you would with anything else. I projected an image of confidence out into the world when I didn\u2019t have it. Eventually, it became real.\r\n\r\nThe more I thought of myself as beautiful, powerful, and strong, the more I began to believe it. It\u2019s like playing a trick with your mind. And trust me, <em>it works<\/em>.\r\n<h2>What inspired you to kickstart your wellness regimen?<\/h2>\r\nI went to Israel last year and ate so much <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/healthy-snacks-weight-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hummus<\/a> that I gained 10 pounds in 10 days. I was way over my normal weight and wallowed in self-pity, but didn&#8217;t really do anything about it.\r\n\r\nMy mom told me I was just making excuses\u2014that if I really wanted to make a change, I had the power to do so. She, as always, was right.\r\n\r\nSo one day I just decided to commit. I didn\u2019t want to do a bootcamp or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/7-extreme-diets-rated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fad diet<\/a>. I wanted to make lifestyle changes that would seamlessly fit into my life.\r\n<h2>what&#8217;s the secret to your success with it?<\/h2>\r\nWhen I got results, so many people messaged me on Instagram asking for my secret. <em>The secret is consistently doing the work.<\/em>\r\n\r\nI wake up really early and work out at least four times a week. I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/meal-prep-for-beginners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pack my own lunches<\/a> and try to limit indulging to the weekend. Yes, sometimes I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/mighty-night\/\">sleep<\/a> in and yes, sometimes I eat a whole pint of ice cream\u2014but for the most part, I have a routine and stick to it.\r\n\r\nThere&#8217;s no quick fix or easy solution in life. If you want something badly enough, you&#8217;ll do whatever you can to make it happen.\r\n<h2>How has your new routine impacted other AREAS of your life?<\/h2>\r\nMy entire fitness journey has been life-changing, but not just because of the physical results (although I do look hot!). The best takeaway was feeling empowered to show my vulnerability.\r\n\r\nI started to record videos at the gym half asleep, dripping in sweat without any makeup, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/vegan-bodybuilder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lifting weights<\/a>. It was like a peek behind the curtain at an unpolished version of myself.\r\n\r\nIt was a huge turning point because I realized that showing this vulnerability wasn\u2019t scary at all. If anything, it actually helped me build an even bigger following because it shows that I&#8217;m <em>real<\/em>. I\u2019m not a supermodel or an athlete. I\u2019m just a 25-year-old curvy girl putting in the work while I juggle my full-time job and crazy social life.\r\n\r\nIf I can do it, anyone can.\r\n\r\n<img data-dominant-color=\"e8e9e0\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #e8e9e0;\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14915 aligncenter not-transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Serena-Kerrigan-Queen-of-Confidence-The-Wellnest-by-HUM-Nutrition-770x1155.jpg\" alt=\"Serena Kerrigan, aka the Queen of Confidence, glammed up in a robe\" width=\"770\" height=\"1155\" \/>\r\n<h2>What are your holy grail beauty and wellness picks?<\/h2>\r\nI swear by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sephora.com\/product\/luminous-silk-foundation-P393401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sephora.com\/product\/unreal-volumizing-high-shine-lip-gloss-P444425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hourglass Unreal Lip Gloss<\/a> in Canvas. And obviously the Queen of Confidence needs a highlighter that shines like the top of the Chrysler Building; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sephora.com\/product\/shimmering-skin-perfector-pressed-P381176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Becca Champagne Pop<\/a> does just that.\r\n\r\nIn terms of wellness, I take HUM&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/product\/10\/ripped-rooster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ripped Rooster<\/a> to supplement my workouts and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/product\/1\/red-carpet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Red Carpet<\/a> to glow. And once a week, I go to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/infrared-saunas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">infrared sauna<\/a> at Higher Dose to sweat everything out. I usually bring a book or just sit still and contemplate life. It\u2019s a great way for me to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/why-i-quit-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">disconnect<\/a>.\r\n\r\nI\u2019ve also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/how-to-choose-a-therapist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">going to therapy<\/a> consistently since I was seven years old. I&#8217;m a huge advocate of prioritizing mental health, and believe everyone should try therapy at least once. We all can improve and should want to be and do better.\r\n<h2>What&#8217;s your advice for when women feel down on themselves?<\/h2>\r\nFirst and foremost, be gentle on yourself! I also think it\u2019s important to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/female-friendships-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">surround yourself with people who lift you up<\/a>, who&#8217;ll tell you how beautiful or smart you are when you need a boost.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, I\u2019m a big <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/power-of-visualization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">believer in manifestation<\/a>. You alone are in control of your confidence and happiness. If something really bothers you, what can you do to change it? You have way more power than you think.\r\n\r\nThe first steps are acknowledging your strengths and speaking positively about yourself. If you won\u2019t, why would anyone else?\r\n<h2>What&#8217;s the best way to boost your mood, Queen of Confidence-style?<\/h2>\r\nPut on something that makes you feel sexy (or nothing at all), throw on some lip gloss, play \u201cRun the World (Girls)\u201d by Beyonce, and dance in front of the mirror.\r\n\r\nAlso, pushing yourself mentally and physically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humnutrition.com\/blog\/does-exercise-boost-the-immune-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">through exercise<\/a>\u00a0works wonders.\r\n<h2>What\u2019s the most influential advice you\u2019ve ever been given?<\/h2>\r\n\u201cNo one will love you until you love yourself.\u201d\r\n<h2>Tell us about your YouTube series, \u201cAsk Serena.\u201d<\/h2>\r\nLast year a co-worker asked me, \u201cIf you could have a YouTube series about anything, what would it be?\u201d My answer was \u201cconfidence\u201d\u2014but how could I translate that into a digital series?\r\n\r\nI thought about the Q&amp;A feature on Instagram, which has become a staple of my brand. Women ask me tons of questions related to confidence and I respond immediately. But what about IRL? Now that I feel empowered, I want to devote my life to empowering others.\r\n\r\nThat&#8217;s what &#8220;Ask Serena&#8221; is. It\u2019s a way for me to help women realize they&#8217;re in control of their narrative and self-perception, and shouldn&#8217;t care about what others think.\r\n<h2>Where do you see SFK in the future?<\/h2>\r\nMy goal for this year was to develop and produce my first YouTube series. Next year, I hope I\u2019ll have produced another season (fingers crossed!).\r\n\r\nGoing forward, I hope to amplify my message as much as possible. I&#8217;m currently researching life coaching programs so I can get a certificate. If I\u2019m the Queen of Confidence, then I really need to know my stuff, right?\r\n\r\nI used to think of of myself as the next Chelsea Handler, so I&#8217;d love to host a late-night talk show. I also want to be the best dressed at the Met Gala. Land a campaign with Chanel. And buy my parents a house in the Hamptons.
